KÜHL KULTIVATR™ Overall Review: Born In The Mountains, Made For Everywhere
KÜHL has long been one of our favorite outdoor clothing brands.
Thanks to durable fabrics—which after climbing copious amounts of hours in them and having them hold up across years we can confidently say are some of the best in the industry— and earthy, subdued color palettes that contrast the otherwise oversaturated coloring of the climbing clothing industry, KÜHL is our go-to brand when we want something that looks good and performs better.
For that reason, I was stoked when they reached out and asked if we wanted to test their KULTIVATR™ women’s overalls.
I’ve been wearing them for several weeks now and here’s what I think…
KÜHL KULTIVATR™ Women’s Overall Review
Size Tested: Women’s 4
As someone who values both style and functionality in outdoor wear, the KÜHL Kultivator women's overall has been a game-changer in my wardrobe. Designed with a focus on comfort, the overall features a soft yet incredibly durable fabric that stands up to rugged outdoor activities while keeping you cozy all day long.
One of the standout features of these overalls is the soft twill fabric (a blend of mostly natural cotton, modal, and lyocell, with some elasterell and lycra). It feels luxuriously soft against the skin, making it perfect for long days of hiking, gardening, or simply lounging around. Despite its softness, the fabric is surprisingly tough, resisting tears and abrasions even in rough terrain.
What I appreciate most about the KÜHL Kultivator overalls is their versatility. They're designed to be functional enough for outdoor adventures yet stylish enough for everyday wear. The adjustable straps and waist ensure a perfect fit, while the array of pockets provides ample storage for essentials like keys, phones, and tools.
As an avid gardener, they’ve become my go-to. The comfortable and durable fabric allows me to move freely while kneeling, digging, and reaching for plants without any restrictions. The ample pockets are perfect for holding my gardening tools, seeds, and phone, keeping everything I need right at hand. Plus, the adjustable straps ensure a snug fit, so I can focus on cultivating my garden without any wardrobe distractions.
Overall, I can't recommend the KÜHL Kultivator women's overall enough. If you're looking for a blend of comfort, durability, and versatility in your outdoor clothing, these overalls are an excellent investment. The attention to detail, from the reinforced stitching to the thoughtful placement of pockets, showcases the brand's commitment to quality craftsmanship.
Pros:
Incredibly comfortable with a soft fabric that feels great against the skin

Versatile design suitable for various activities, from hiking to gardening to casual wear
Adjustable straps and waist for a customizable fit
Flattering yet also practical and non-restricting fit
Ample pockets for convenient storage of essentials

Cons:
Somewhat on the pricier side compared to other overalls (but you get what you pay for!)

Limited color options compared to some other brands (but if you like dark, earthy colors like I do, this isn’t a negligible concern)

OTHER KÜHL PRODUCTS WE LOVE
Overall, we are beyond impressed with these shorts but we really shouldn’t be given KÜHL’s long track record with designing garments we love.
Women’s:
TREKR™ Short: Super comfortable stretchy shorts for all day wear either in motion or sitting. They have the perfect fit for athletic women with big legs and small waists like me.
SPLASH™ Roll-Up Pants: Durable and versatile trial-to-town pants. I wear mine more than any other bottoms I own.
ASCENDYR™ Fleece Hoody: Full zip sweater-knit fleece hoodie with a design so long it covers the butt, making it perfect for cold weather wear at either the crag or anywhere.
Men’s:
VALIANT™ Short Sleeve Shirt: The best merino t-shirt you will ever find, especially for men with muscular chests and shoulders. Chris owns one in almost every color and has worn them almost every day for years.
SPYFIRE® Down Jacket: Ultra slim but ultra warm.
RYDR™ Pants: As durable as full-on canvas workwear with half the bulk and twice the technical performance ability.
ABOUT KÜHL
KÜHL comes from both a German word meaning “cool” and a Scandinavian slang term meaning “fun”—and it’s a pretty apt name for the creations of this outdoor clothing company.
By blending laid-back style with immaculately designed products that are built-to-last, this Salt Lake City-based brand keeps you looking cool while out having fun.
Ethically speaking, they’re committed to the welfare of their employees by offering free gourmet lunches daily and paying 100% of health insurance premiums. They protect employees of their global manufacturing partners with a strict code of conduct that enforced safe working conditions and living wages.
While KÜHL still has a long way to go before we would consider them a sustainable outdoor clothing brand, they have recently been trying to incorporate greater percentages of organic and recycled materials into their lineup.
Perhaps their most impressive sustainability initiative is their focus on designing long-lasting, durable products (the single most sustainable thing a garment can do is last, after all) and their commitment to backing this craftsmanship.
Aside from offering in-house repairs for all products, they promote a circular economy by donating all manufacturing fabric scraps to local schools and education initiatives.
